Hi everyone! Today I'm doing a new video about how I learnt to speak English I had the idea of this video because I received a lot of messages and I have some friends who told me that my videos in English were cool and that they wish to speak English too but they can't and I told myself "Not possible!" Everyone can learn English or another language So today I'm doing this video to give you some tips to easily learn a new language Tip number 1: Become more confident I noticed that when I speak with my friends about learning English they tell me that they're just bad at it, that they don't understand and that their accent is rubbish So this has to stop! Nobody was born bad in English, everyone can learn the language So be confident, it will be easy and you'll be able to speak English Tip number 2: Read and listen to things in English This means that your favorite films and series, you must watch them in their original language with subtitles and not in French because first your oral comprehension will improve, and you accent will be improved too just by listenning to the film/series and if you want to improve even more, you can try to repeat lines that you like and try to repeat it while being the closest possible from what you heard from the actors/actresses and this way your accent will improve, that's how I did to improve mine and also you'll see that even if now you don't like watching films and series with the subtitles because you have to look at the screen and the subtitles at the same time once you'll start to watch everything in its original language, when you'll watch something in French, you'll see that it's a lot better in the original language For reading it's the same, if possible, read in English For example as I love things dealing with the cinema, I tend to read film reviews in English to improve and to have more vocabulary also when I was in secondary school/middle school I had a magazine in English named "Today in English" and it helped me a lot to learn new vocabulary, it dealt with the news and it was easy and helpful Tip number 3: Talk and think in English What you can do is what I did before going to Scotland, with a friend who went to Amsterdam we used to talk to each other in English on Messenger to improve ourselves and to stop being scared to speak English in front of someone else because we have a rubbish accent or I don't know what else it helped us a lot so if you have a friend who wants to learn the same language as you then don't hesitate to do this Then, this tip will seem very weird and you'll say "but Coralie I don't want to do that" but try to speak alone, like I said sooner repeat the films/series lines and also for example if you're hungry, instead of just thinking in your mother tongue that you're hungry try to say it in English or in the language you want to learn, and do this for everything, how do you say I want to sleep, I don't want to do this...
etc.
start with easy things to say and then make it more complicated to learn new vocabulary and improve your accent try to make an effort with the pronounciation and if you're missing some words then look for them and learn them Another idea to learn new vocabulary, that I had while speaking with other people who learnt English they were europeans from all around Europe, and so there were Italians who told me that in their house there were post-it notes on every thing with its translation in English and in German, because they were learning German too and so thanks to doing this, day by day they would remember the vocabulary and be able to say the things' names in Italian, in English and in German it was just with the things in the house but it was new vocabulary to learn to it was useful Tip number 4: Travel abroad! So, I know that you need money to travel and personally I can't travel with a snap of my fingers but if you're a student and you can do an internship abroad then go! if you can travel abroad with ERASMUS then go, everything you can do to travel abroad, do it! I know it can be scary, I was the first one to panic while arriving in Scotland I was thinking "what's happening?" and Scottish people have a strong accent so sometimes I wouldn't understand at all so it was stressful at the beginning but now I can see that my English improved a lot and I became more confident and also, without talking about learning a new language, travelling abroad and living in a country that doesn't speak French or that doesn't speak your mother tongue it makes you become more independant, and you grow up a lot, and when you come back in your country, it's like life is now so much easier! So that's it for my tips to learn English, which can be used for any language I know that sometimes you need to force yourself a little, and I'm going to say a very cliché thing: when you want, you can! And to finish, if I can reassure you, I wasn't always good in English, when I started learning English in secondary/middle school it was very difficult, I had a bad accent, I couldn't pronounce the word "highlighter" this word was a nightmare for me, the teacher would make me repeat it during a whole class because I couldn't pronounce it correctly and in oral comprehension I wasn't very good at it, I wouldn't understand and I would panic because of that so it wasn't great, but at the end I pushed myself to improve my English, thanks to the tips I gave you in this video and now my English is better so I'm just saying that to insist on the fact that there are no people good in English and people bad in English, everyone can learn And to finish number 2, I'm thinking about this now, I took the TOEFL to be able to travel to the USA or Canada if I wanted for my studies and I got the mark of 102 out of 120 when I thought I wouldn't have more than 90 so I was rather happy but it was just to tell you that if you'd like to take it too or if you want some information about the TOEFL you can contact me and I will answer to your questions So now the video is truly over, you can follow us on Instagram and subscribe to our YouTube Channel and like the video if you enjoyed and if it was helpful and you can tell us in the comments what subject you would like for a next video and what you think about this one!
